Photographer, Northeastern University professor emeritus, and former
Harvard section leader Neal Rantoul presents a reflection on the
present-day American West through images of the Utah desert and the
Paradise, California Camp Fire aftermath. Together, these two
landscapes show the West as both an inspiration for classical
landscape photography and the site of human and environmental
devastation. American West makes clear how the environment of the
former American frontier now faces serious threats to its long-term
survival.
