Event Description:
Yuko Lippit will give a talk on her (2018) publication "The Artist in
Edo," an anthology of essays published by the Center for Advanced
Study in the Visual Arts at the National Gallery of Art in Washington,
D.C. Collectively the essays explore the subject position of the
artist in Edo-period Japan (1615-1868) and how it was shaped by the
historical and cultural contingencies of the early modern period.
Light refreshments will be served.
